American actress and singer Evan Rachel Wood has accused her ex-husband rock icon Marilyn Manson of “horrifically abusing” her when they were in a relationship. The singer said that she was the victim of domestic abuse for several years.

Manson and Wood first started their relationship in 2007, when Manson was 38 and Wood was only 19. The two eventually got engaged in 2010 but later broke up in the same year.

In a post on Monday, Wood detailed her experienced with Mason, who she mentioned by his real name – Brian Warner. In her post, Wood said that Manson had “groomed” her when she was young and “brainwashed” her into submission.

“The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson. He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives,” Wood said in her post.

According to a report from Vanity Fair, three other women had come forward in a “show of solidarity” against Manson.

Wood has been a staunch advocate of women’s rights and has fought against issues such as rape and domestic violence. In 2019, Wood was instrumental in the passing of the Phoenix Act. The bill extended the statute of limitations on domestic violence from three years to five years.

Wood’s post comes as the Phoenix Act officially comes into effect this month after it was signed into law in October 2019. In a testimony before the California Senate, Wood detailed her experience and said that her abuser had tied her up and repeatedly tortured her. Wood – who did not name her abuser during that time – said that she was forced to go through horrific physical and psychological abuse.
