Indian actor and reality TV sensation Sidharth Shukla died unexpectedly at the age of 40.

Shukla is said to have died of a heart attack, according to sources from India. The BBC was unable to determine the cause of death but talked with a doctor at a nearby hospital in Mumbai who verified the actor was dead upon admission.

Ajay Devgn, Parineeti Chopra, Kiara Advani, and other Indian celebrities paid tribute to Shukla this morning.

Shukla began his acting career as a model before appearing in the TV serial Babul Ka Aangann Chootey Na. The actor made his Bollywood debut in the 2014 rom-com Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, after continuing to perform on the small screen in popular soap operas and reality series.

He went on to anchor shows like India’s Got Talent 6 before winning the long-running reality show Bigg Boss 13. This cemented his status as a high-profile personality in Indian popular culture.
