Lil Nas X is finally ready to introduce his bundle of joy — rather, his debut album Montero — into the world after months of teasing, mocking, and self-promotion.
Lil Nas X uses the genre-fusing technique that made his breakout single “Old Town Road” such a big hit and applies it to a full album’s worth of exciting tracks on his new album, which features 15 songs. A variety of unique guest appearances are sprinkled throughout the album, including Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, Elton John, and, of course, Jack Harlow on “Industry Baby.”
Starting with his No. 1 single “Montero” to his last No. 2 hit “Industry Baby,” Lil Nas X’s long-awaited 15-song LP uses controversial viral videos, phony pregnancy announcements, some humorous billboards to make sure fans were tuned for the new project
When Lil Nas X announced his album in August, he spoke about his debut record, which opened him up for some new insights.
“I’ve learned to let go of trying to control people’s perception of who I am, what I can do, and where I will be. I’ve realized the only opinion of me that really matters is my own,” Lil Nas X said.
Apart from dropping his hotly anticipated album, Lil Nas X also released a new music video. His latest music video, “That’s What I Want,” has been viewed almost 2.5 million times since it was uploaded last night. The video has a healthy mix of sure-to-outrage imagery, including football, youthful love, shower sex, “Brokeback Mountain” camping trips, treachery, alcohol, and, yes, his now-iconic wedding dress also makes an appearance.
Recently, he created a hot performance of his song “Industry Baby” and finally took home a year video for his controversial video for Montero, a 22-year-old rapper at the 2021 MTV Vidéo Music Award. Lil Nas had one thing to say upon collecting the most prestigious prize of the night: “thank you for the LGBT agenda!”
