Superman Comes Out Of The Closet, Bisexual Superman To Be Featured In Upcoming Issue

By introducing a bisexual Superman in a forthcoming issue, DC Comics is taking a huge step toward encouraging diversity in its comic books. The publisher intends to make a dramatic statement by changing one of its most recognizable superheroes in the next comic book issue.

The focus of the forthcoming comic book issue will be on the original Superman’s son, Jon Kent. In DC comics, two people have assumed the mantle of Superman: the first is Clark Kent, whom most people are more familiar with, and his son.

Kent’s son, who had previously been known as Superboy, now wears the red cape as the new Superman in DC’s newer issues. Jon, like his father, will be shown in a forthcoming comic book issue as having a romantic relationship with a journalist, this time with a reporter named Jay Nakamura.

Jon and Jay first became friends in high school, according to a statement from DC Comics. Jon, like his father, tried to live a regular life as a student while concealing his identity as the new Superman.

DC Comics said Jon will kiss Jay in the upcoming fifth issue of the series “Superman: Son of Kal-El,” officially revealing to the world that he is bisexual. The two will kiss after Jon suffers from mental and physical exhaustion as a superhero, DC added.

“I’m incredibly honored to be working beside Tom on the ‘Superman: Son of Kal-El’ series showing Jon Kent tackling his complex modern life, while also saving the world from its greatest threats, villains, and menaces,” Superman artist John Timms said.

The decision to reveal Superman as bisexual is a major step forward for diversity in comics, which has struggled in the past. While Superman may not be the first comic book superhero to come out as a part of the LGBTQ+ community, he is perhaps the most well-known, which makes his character transformation a significant moment in comic book history.
