Uma Thurman Stands Against Texas Abortion Law, Admits To Having An Abortion

American actress Uma Thurman revealed her “darkest secret” in an emotional article on Tuesday as she talked about the recently imposed abortion law in Texas.

The 51-year-old “Kill Bill” actress said that she wants women and girls to know that there is no shame in protecting themselves.

“Some light will shine through, reaching women and girls who might feel ashamed that they can’t protect themselves from and have no agency over,” Thurman said.

Thurman described the new law as “yet another discriminatory tool” against people who are “economically disadvantaged.” She also talked about how some women are forced to have children they clearly cannot or are not equipped to care for. These types of situations extinguish all hopes for the future of these people, Thurman said.

“Women and children of wealthy families retain all the choices in the world and face little risk. I am grief-stricken, as well, that the law pits citizen against citizen, creating new vigilantes who will prey on these disadvantaged women,” Thurman said.

Thurman then admitted that she had an abortion when she was in her “late teens.” She added that because of that decision when she was still unable to provide a stable home, she was able to have children when she was already ready to raise a family.

Thurman said the abortion has been one of her “darkest secrets” but she feels like it was now time to share it with everybody now that she has made a home with her three children, whom she described as her “pride and joy.”

Thurman and ex-husband Ethan Hawke have a daughter, Maya, and a son, Levon. she also has a daughter named Luna with her ex-fiancé Arpad Busson.
