All of the players and staff of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Northwestern Wildcats have been cleared to go ahead with their championship game this weekend. All of the people tested negative for COVID-19 a day ahead of Saturday’s Big Ten football championship game in Indianapolis.
All of the people that will be participating in the game were required to pass a final layer of testing on Friday as part of the requirements set by the conference. A source with knowledge in the matter said that everyone came out “100% clean.”
While Northwestern has not reported a single positive coronavirus case amongst its ranks, Ohio State has had to remove some players due to the virus. Ohio State played without 23 of its players for various reasons, including its Dec. 5 victory over Michigan State.
The team did not say which of its members had tested positive for COVID-19 with the exception of coach Ryan Day – who missed the Michigan State game. Under Big Ten rules, anyone that tests positive for COVID-19 will be required to miss all activities for at least 21 days.
