Amazon unveiled its first self-branded television sets on Thursday. The high-end Amazon Fire TV Omni Series and the more inexpensive Amazon Fire TV 4-Series will both be available in a variety of sizes. They will be available for purchase in October, with prices ranging from $369.99 to $1,099.99.
Until recently, Amazon has marketed TV streaming sticks and collaborated with other manufacturers, such as Toshiba and Insignia in the United States, to create TV sets with its own Amazon Fire interface, which allows voice control and quick access to Amazon Prime Video and other streaming services.
Amazon said that it wanted to build its own TV sets in order to better combine its Fire TV software with Alexa voice commands. The move also gives Amazon the ability to set its own prices, allowing it to undercut competitors as it does with its Fire tablets, which cost a fraction of what Apple’s iPads do.
Having its own product also gives Amazon the ability to regulate the experience in order to provide consumers with a “frustration-free” setup. Open the box, switch on the TV, and it will automatically connect to your home network if you’ve previously linked any Amazon device to your Wi-Fi.
Customers will be able to manage smart devices around their house, such as lighting, cameras, and thermostats, using a software dashboard that displays on the TV, according to Amazon.
The televisions will be available for purchase on Amazon’s website and at Best Buy. They all support 4K video.
