Google has introduced an upgraded version of its artificial intelligence model, Gemini 2.0, with a focus on enhanced reasoning capabilities. The update, called Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking, is now available in the Gemini app, allowing users to interact with an AI that can break down complex queries into structured steps for more accurate responses.
This rollout is part of a broader expansion of Google’s AI portfolio, which also includes the debut of Gemini 2.0 Pro, an improved flagship model designed for tasks requiring greater factual accuracy and advanced problem-solving, particularly in coding and mathematics. The company has also announced Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite, a budget-friendly model aimed at delivering faster processing speeds at a lower cost.

Google’s AI Investment and Competition
As Google pushes forward in the AI sector, it plans to invest $75 billion in infrastructure and model development in 2025—more than double the $32.3 billion spent in 2023. The company is ramping up its AI efforts to compete with industry leaders such as OpenAI, Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon-backed Anthropic.
Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking and other AI advancements reflect Google’s broader ambition to stay ahead in generative AI. The new model is expected to rival OpenAI’s o1 and DeepSeek’s R1, which also focus on reasoning-based AI interactions.
New AI Features and Availability
The Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking model is accessible via the Gemini app on desktop and mobile, featuring an experimental function that allows AI to interact with Google services like YouTube, Search, and Google Maps. Meanwhile, Gemini 2.0 Pro will be made available to Advanced Gemini app subscribers, as well as developers through Vertex AI and AI Studio.
In addition to these updates, Google has made Gemini 2.0 Flash, a high-efficiency AI model, generally available for developers. The Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite model, designed as a cost-effective alternative, is now in public preview.
