Upcoming iPhone 14 To Come With In-Display Touch ID Sensor

While Apple has yet to unveil any official details about its upcoming iPhone 13 lineup, which is expected to launch this September, reputable sources claimed that the iPhone 14 may be coming with an in-screen fingerprint sensor.

Noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in a note to investors that Apple may be bringing back Touch ID in the form of an in-screen fingerprint sensor. MacRumors reported that the 2022 iPhone 14 lineup will be offered in two screen sizes – 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches.

Kuo said two available models will be available for each size – a pro and a non-pro model. Kuo said Apple’s new in-screen fingerprint sensors may only be offered in the more expensive pro models.

During the pandemic, Apple’s Face ID became difficult to use with people forced to wear masks all the time. Apple wants to remedy the issue by bringing back Touch ID to add an additional form of biometric security to its smartphones.

Kuo said the iPhone 14 will be coming with a camera upgrade, likely a new 48-megapixel wide-angle lens. Unlike previous models, Apple is not expected to release smaller versions of its main iPhone models, such as its small 5.4-inch iPhone 12.

However, Kuo speculates that Apple may be releasing an updated version of its iPhone SE sometime in the first half of 2022. He said Apple will likely be marketing it as the “Cheapest 5G iPhone ever.”

For those waiting on the return of Touch ID, they may have to wait until 2022 to get their hands on an iPhone with that feature.
