The CDC announced Friday that Florida had set a new record for COVID-19 cases reported in a single day, with the state adding 27,584 to its total.
The state reported eight more deaths linked to COVID-19 to the CDC, bringing the total number of deaths to 43,640 since the outbreak began. According to the CDC, the total number of cases in Florida has now reached 3,179,493.
On Friday, the Florida Department of Health released its own weekly COVID-19 data, which indicated a third straight week of more than 150,000 new cases.
From Aug. 20 to 26, there were 151,749 new cases, up from 150,236 the week before. There were 26,475 new cases in the last week among children under the age of 12 who are not yet immunized.
The statewide new-case positive rate has decreased to 16.8%, the lowest level since mid-July. The prior week, it was 20.1%.
In Thursday’s CDC statistics update, the state’s COVID death toll climbed by more than 900, but those fatalities didn’t all happen in the preceding 24 hours and were spread out over weeks.
For more than two weeks, the 7-day moving average for new cases in Florida has stayed over 21,000. The state is responsible for roughly 15% of all new cases in the country.
Data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services indicated that Florida tops the nation with 16,457 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 on Friday. According to their data, 85%of Florida’s total hospital beds are full, with 95% of the state’s ICU beds occupied.
According to the most recent state data, 68%of eligible Floridians (ages 12 and above) had received at least one vaccination injection, up by two percentage points from the week before.
Broward County has 77%, Monroe County has 76%, and Palm Beach County has 71% of its eligible population immunized.
