Several Republicans at the U.S. House of Representatives joined Democrats in voting to impeach President Donald Trump. The vote is the most bipartisan impeachment in history.
The vote was finalized at 232 to 197, with 10 Republicans voting for Trump’s impeachment.
The Republicans that joined the vote to impeach the president included:
- Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming
- Rep. Anthony Gonzalez of Ohio
- Rep. Jamie Herrera-Beutler of Washington
- Rep. John Katko of New York
- Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois
- Rep. Peter Meijer of Michigan
- Rep. Dan Newhouse of Washington
- Rep. Tom Rice of South Carolina
- Rep. Fred Upton of Michigan
- Rep. David Valadao of California
The lawmakers are aiming to impeach Trump – his second one for this term – on the grounds of “inciting insurrection.” Under the articles of impeachment, Trump is being accused of “willfully inciting violence” against the U.S government.
“There has never been a greater betrayal by a president of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution,” Rep. Liz Cheney said.
Cheney – the no.3 House Republican – has faced backlash from GOP leaders for siding with democrats and her condemnation of Trump’s recent actions.
