Trump Pardons Hundreds In Final Act As President; Full List

US President Donald Trump has issued pardons and commuted sentences for more than 140 people as part of his final official act as president. People that were pardoned or had their sentences commuted included former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, his former strategist Steve Bannon, and rapper Lil Wayne.

The White House published the list of pardons and commutations on Wednesday – Trump’s official last day in office. The only name missing on the list was Trump himself.

Sources close to the matter said that Trump had initially considered pardoning himself and his associates. However, his advisers cautioned Trump against the unprecedented action.

Trump pardoned a total of 73 people and commuted the sentences of 70 others. The majority of those on the list are little-known felons but a good number of them were in one way or another connected to Trump and his family. The list also included some very well known celebrities, executives, and former lawmakers.

According to the Justice Department, Trump actually pardoned and commuted sentences for fewer people compared to other presidents. During his term, Trump pardoned a total of 116 people. The figure is relatively low when compared to Barack Obama’s 212, George W. Bush’s 189, and Bill Clinton’s 396.

Some people that were expected on the list but were omitted were Wikileaks founder Julian Assange and former intelligence contractor Edward Snowden. Sources said that Trump is still considering pardoning the two people but is unlikely to do so in time.
