U.S. Space Force Unveils New Uniforms For Space Guardians

The U.S. Space Force just presented the new designs for clothing and training outfits for its Space Guardians.

At the annual meeting of the Air Force Association in Maryland, two guards displayed their new Space Force uniforms for the first time, showing a unisex style that they originally intended for women, before they were adapted for men.

Space Force spokesperson Col. Catie Hague described the new uniforms as “distinctive, modern, professional, and comfortable to wear.” She added that they first designed the uniforms for women before redesigning them for male service members.

The preliminary design of the Space Force has a dark blue wrapped jacket and has the diagonal buttons of a formal shirt with neckwear instead of the normal fit uniform of those buttons in the center. The appearance is complete with white bands across the wrists and grey trousers.

People on social media described the uniforms to those worn by officers in the television series “Star Trek,” while some likened them to bellhop uniforms.

The number six remains prominent in the design. The number represents the arrival of the Space Service as the sixth military branch. This includes the inclusion of six buttons, a six-sided name tag, and six-sided insignia.

“The deep blue color was chosen from the Space Force seal. The dark color represents the vastness of outer space. The buttons have the globe, delta, orbit, and stars that are part of both the U.S. Space Force flag and the seal,” Hague said.

Hague stated that in the next months the services aim to finish uniform designs, but disclaimed that it may take years before they are used by Space Force Guardians – the name for Space Force service members.
