A business jet crash at Scottsdale Municipal Airport on Monday resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries after the aircraft veered off the runway and struck a parked plane, officials said.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that a Learjet 35A lost control upon landing at around 2:45 p.m. and collided with a Gulfstream 200. The Learjet, owned by Mötley Crüe musician Vince Neil, had arrived from Austin, Texas. Neil was not aboard at the time of the incident, his spokesperson confirmed.
Emergency responders treated five individuals at the scene, according to Scottsdale Fire Department Captain Dave Folio. One person was pronounced dead, while three others were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The remaining individual declined medical attention.
Initially, a statement posted on Mötley Crüe’s social media identified the deceased as the pilot and stated that two passengers—Neil’s girlfriend and a friend—were injured. However, that post was later removed and replaced with a message that did not specify the identities of those affected. The updated statement confirmed that four people were aboard the Learjet: two pilots and two passengers.
Authorities have not released details about the cause of the crash, but an airport spokesperson stated that the aircraft’s left landing gear failed during touchdown. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has taken over the investigation.
The crash occurred shortly after the conclusion of the PGA Tour’s Phoenix Open, a period of high air traffic at the airport. Scottsdale Municipal Airport, which primarily serves corporate and private aircraft, does not accommodate commercial airline flights.
