Five Killed In UK’s First Mass Shooting In More Than A Decade

At least five people have been confirmed dead after a gunman opened fire on pedestrians walking along a street in Britain’s port city of Plymouth. Police confirmed Thursday that one of the victims was a 3-year-old child.

The gunman, identified as 22-year-old Jake Davidson, broke into a home in Plymouth’s Keyham neighborhood where he shot and killed a woman and her child. He then proceeded to walk out into the streets and randomly shot at pedestrians.

Witnesses said the gunman was armed with a pump-action shotgun. However, police said they have not yet confirmed the weapon that was used in the shooting.

Devon and Cornwall police chief constable, Shaun Sawyer, said his officers responded to multiple emergency calls and arrived at the location six minutes after gunshots were reported. They saw several wounded people on the streets, including the gunman who had likely shot himself.

Police said one man was shot dead outside the house and two others were shot and wounded farther along the street. A woman was also shot and later died in hospital. The victims ranged in age from 33 to 36.

Investigators are still trying to determine the motive for the murders but have partly ruled our terrorism. However, officers are still keeping an open mind given the lack of information.

“Let’s see what’s on his hard drive, let’s see what’s on his computer, let’s see what’s on social media,” police said.

The last mass shooting that happened in the UK was in 2010. A taxi driver went on a rampage and killed 12 people in northwest England’s Cumbria County before committing suicide.
